One morning a young man was wandering along the beach when he saw a boy far away picking up something and very gently throwing it into the sea. He quickly paced towards him, surprised to find that the boy was picking up the starfishes which were washed ashore by the tide and throwing them back into the sea.
“Excuse me, why are you throwing the starfishes back into the sea?”He asked.
The boy replied,“Sir, you see the sun will soon rise and the tide will flow away.”
“But don't you think it is a waste of your time as there are miles and miles of beach and numerous starfishes still lying along it?Surely you can’t keep this act all day long. You can’t possibly make a difference!”
The child ignored the young man's remark. Then he picked another starfish and threw it into the sea, and said,“It makes a difference for that one.Would you like to join me?It would make a difference.”
There is something very special in each and every one of us. We have all been given the ability to make a difference to shape the future. We must each find our own starfish. And if we throw our starfish wisely and well, the world will be better.
