(一)题型描述
应用文写作是四、六级教学大纲的要求,具体包括书信、通知、便条、简历等的写作。但考虑到词数和主观发挥余地等因素,在六级考试中具备可考性的只有书信。因此下面主要讲解书信的写作。
书信既有实用性,又比较利于考生发挥。六级考到书信的年份有2005年12月、2005年1月、2004年6月、2002年1月和2001年6月。
从写信的对象和信的正式程度来看,书信又可以分为私人书信和公务书信。私人书信的对象一般是关系较亲密、熟悉的人,沟通的内容也比较轻松、简单,如2001年6月的真题。公务书信的写信对象一般比较陌生,而且沟通的内容也比较严肃,如2005年12月、2005年1月、2004年6月和2002年1月的真题。而且根据写信的目的,公务书信又可以分为申请信、邀请信、求职信、道歉信、感谢信、表扬信和投诉信等等。

假设你是李明,请你就本校食堂的状况给校长写一封信,内容应涉及食堂的饭菜质量、价格、环境、服务等,可以是表扬,可以是批评建议,也可以兼而有之。
(三)整体构思
从考过的这些真题来看,书信题一般都会给出明确的三点提纲,而且一般来说按照提纲写成三段正文即可。只不过需要注意一下格式。除了正文以外,书信一般包括以下三点:
·时间
·称呼
·落款
时间一般写在右上角,用考试当天的时间即可,如June 17,2014。
称呼根据私人书信和公务书信而有所不同。私人书信一般用Dear 加上对方的姓名即可,如Dear Xiao Wang;公务书信一般不知道对方的姓名,而且即使知道姓名也不宜直呼其名,因此一般用Dear 加上其职务名,如给校长写信称呼为Dear Mr.President,给编辑写信称呼为Dear Mr./Miss Editor,如果对对方一无所知则称其为Dear Sir/Madam。
落款一般为Yours...加姓名。私人书信的Yours...部分一般用Yours truly或Yours即可,关系十分亲密的,如家庭成员之间、恋人之间等也可以用love。公务书信一般用Yours sincerely,特别体现尊敬可以用Yours respectfully。Yours和后面所跟的单词顺序也可以颠倒。
另外,特别要注意的是,由于众所周知的原因,写信人的姓名一般会在Directions中给出,因此不要写自己的真名。
除此之外,在落款之前也常常有一些固定的客套话作为结尾,如Best wishes(私人书信)或Best regards(公务书信)。
但除此之外,书信就没有什么固定的语句了,只要做到字迹清楚、段落明朗、内容完整、紧扣提纲、语法正确、语言闪光、篇幅够长,都可以得高分。只是有时候题目可能未明确给出三点提纲,需要考生自己有分段的意识。一般来说可以按以下三点来分段:
·简要说明写信的事由
·说明写信的具体理由
·再次申明写信的目的
(四)分段写作
书信的分段写作并无固定的模式,只需注意用词的灵活、闪光,句式的多样,并且要通过平时练习扩展思路。现在我们总结出一些公务书信常用的句型,给大家作为参考。
开头
I am...and I am writing to(you about)...
我是……,我给你(们)写信是关于……
如:
1.I am a student from Tsinghua University and I am writing to you about my experience of buying a dictionary and my complaint about the service of a bookstore.

(一)题型描述
顾名思义,即给出了图画(漫画或图片)要求考生写出文章。在2012年6月之前,图画作文可以说是考研英语的专利,因为从1998年开始,考研英语(尤其是2010年分出的考研英语一)几乎每次考的都是图画作文。但是近两年这种局面被打破。继2012年6月六级考查了图画作文之后,2013年6月四级作文也破天荒地考查了图画作文。作为四六级的新兴题型,这种写作自然会引起大家的重视,但完全没有必要惊慌,因为有大量的考研英语写作经验可以借鉴,而且相比此前讲过的作文类型而言,图画作文只不过多了一段看图说话的文字,另外两段的拓展方式甚至语言都与前述类型很像,的确没什么可怕的。在这里以2012年6月的真题为例进行讲解。
(二)真题示例

(三)整体构思
如前文所述,从2011年12月开始,六级写作不再给出具体提纲。在这道题中,只是要求考生在作文开始的部分简要描述图画(Your essay should start with a brief description of the picture)。但是,在此基础上很容易想到如下三个步骤:
·描述图画
·阐述寓意
·总结、建议或其他
(四)分段写作
下面分别讲解每一段的写作。
第一段
本段不用太长,一般2~3句,按先主后次或时间、空间顺序写出与主题相关的细节。语言上常用现在进行时,可用复杂简单句(即用分词短语、介词短语等作定语或状语)、并列句(如用while连接两个句子)、复合句(如非限制性定语从句)和倒装句(如方位词+系动词+主语)。
第二段
按题目要求,本段应该写互联网对人际交流的影响(The Impact of the Internet on Interpersonal Communication)。当然,图中所体现的影响似乎是不好的:父亲想与女儿面对面交流,而女儿却拒绝了,让父亲去看她的博客。但如果在考场上只写网络对人际交流的负面影响,词数写不够,也可以稍微提及其正面影响:有些话确实不方便面对面说,即使是父母和子女之间也可以通过文字交流来更方便、更充分地表达思想。在实际写作时,可以采用让步的方式,先提及其积极作用,然后话锋一转,重点说其负面影响。这可以叫让步反驳法,也可以叫陈述利弊的写法。当然,后面我们在“模板变脸”的部分还会提及其他方法来阐述寓意,如举例论证法、分析原因法、分析结果法。
第三段
其实第三段在构思上并不难,可以对原文进行总结,即用不一样的词句再次表达图画的寓意,也可以就负面影响提出解决办法,或者展望一下未来互联网对人际交流的影响。

本题提纲非常明确、实用,也很具代表性。第一点旨在让考生描述图表,第二点要求考生分析图表所反映的变化的原因,第三点要求写出这一变化的影响。这基本上也是所有图表题的共同思路和写作步骤。在未给出提纲时就可以照此写出三段:
·描述变化
·说明原因
·总结、建议或其他
(四)分段写作
下面分别讲解每一段的写作。
第一段
本段仍然按照先总后分的结构来写作。先总体描述一下变化,然后分开说明。特别要注意的是,不要大量、机械地罗列数据,只需要指明整体变化趋势和重要的、有代表性的数据即可。另外,因为描述图表时不可避免地会提到表示“上升”、“下降”或“增加”、“减少”这样的词,因此一定要注意用词的多样性。表示“上升”或“增加”的词除了increase外,还有rise,grow,expand,jump,climb,soar等;表示“下降”或“减少”的词除了decrease外,还有fall,drop,decline等。另外可以根据情况使用表示“大幅度”或“小幅度”的形容词,前者如sharp,dramatic,drastic,marked,remarkable,considerable等,后者如slow,slight,modest,gradual等。另外,有些图表的描述需要用到“占(百分之多少)”的概念,表达也应该有变化,如account for,make up,compose等。
第二段
分析住房所有权变化的原因对很多学生来说确实较难。这道题目提醒考生,平时应该多思考,多做brainstorming的练习,多想想身边发生的各种变化的原因。除此之外,可以采用一些有逻辑性的思维方法,如横向思维(政府的鼓励;个人收入的增加;房地产行业的发展,即前面所提过的分类思维法)和纵向思维(深挖其中某一条的原因,如个人收入为什么增加了)。
第三段
其实第三段在构思上并不难,因为提纲已经提示了两个方面,即个人和社会。大家应该都能想到,这种变化的影响是加重了一部分人的经济负担和促进整个经济在多个领域的发展,关键是怎样表述成地道的英语。

其实,通过这篇文章的写作,可以总结出几乎所有图表作文的模板,即下文中画线的部分:

顾名思义,谚语警句型写作就是给出谚语或警句作题目,要求考生就其写出一篇作文。这种题型在六级考试的历史上出现过四次,即2013年6月、2012年12月、2011年12月和1997年1月的真题。这种类型作为近年来的常考类型,自然为大家所关注,但并不可怕,写起来同样有规律可循,下面以真题为例说明该题型的构思和写作方法。

本题的出题形式在六级写作历史上有划时代的意义:就是从这道题开始,六级写作不再给出具体提纲(当然,不排除以后出现传统提纲作文的可能)。但是,如前文所述,不给提纲的作文也完全可以按照同类作文往年真题给出的提纲提示去写。比如1997年1月的真题:

(四)分段写作
下面分别讲解每一段的写作。
第一段
第一段要解释这一谚语的含义。其实用一句话解释不难,从字面上解释一下即可。不过,既然要写成一段,那就应该再扩展一下。其实,在这里可以从正面和反面各思考一下:为什么要“spend the first four sharpening the axe”?不这样做会有什么不好的结果?这样可说的话就多了。
第二段
其实第二段举例还是比较容易的。首先,如果能够想到一些有名的历史事例,写出来是比较有说服力的。但表述这样一些历史事例对一部分同学来说可能有难度,那么可以想象一下现实生活中的例子或者个人经历,这是比较容易的。其实,如果这些例证都不好表述,可以以英语学习为例,因为学生的任务就是学习。而且这篇文章里面要提到的很多内容都可以用于别的作文,考生可以把这些例子总结起来。
第三段
如上所述,第三段要“总结发挥”,即强调一下该谚语的重要性,说明我们在学习、工作、生活等方面都要注意,并且可以提出一些具体的建议。在文章最后还可以以一个有类似含义的英文谚语来结束写作。

其实,通过这篇文章的写作,可以总结出整个“谚语警句型”作文的模板,即下文中画线的部分:

此题提纲已经有非常明确的三点,而且非常自然,符合逻辑,这其实就是我们常说的一个问题的“三步走”,即提出问题、分析问题、解决问题。但如果第二段既分析原因又分析危害,可能导致第二段太长,而且给阅卷人造成困难,需要多花时间辨认文章从何处开始分析危害,或者有没有分析危害;另外也会造成段落内部主题不一致,不符合英语段落规范。因此可以把原因和危害分开写,将整篇文章写成四段:
· 提出问题
· 分析原因
· 分析危害
· 解决问题
实际上,很多其他“解决问题型”的真题提纲就是按照这个步骤给的,因此,上述提纲可以作为“解决问题型”作文的共同思路。如果给的提纲只有两点而且难于扩展,就可以按照这个步骤对其进行补充。未给出提纲的“社会问题”类题目就更可以按照这四步写成四段了。当然,如果没有具体提纲,而又觉得原因或危害不好写,那也可以只写原因或只写危害,将整篇文章写成三段。
(四)分段写作
下面讲解每一段的写作。
第一段
第一段“提出问题”其实不必写太多,两三句话交代一下问题就行。按照先总后分的原则,先总的交代一下“我们身边存在着盗版产品”这一问题,然后举出一些例子进行论述就可以。
第二段
文章的第二、三段其实更重要,应该是文章的主体。因此在构思上应该多花一些时间。关于“盗版现象的原因”,最容易想到的是“不法生产者为谋取暴利”。如果想不到其他的,既可以用举例的方式说说通过盗版可以赚取多少利润,也可用比较抽象的思考方式,即分类思维。如由“生产者的原因”想到其对立面“消费者的原因”,即贪图便宜或版权保护意识薄弱;或者由“盗版者”想到“被盗版者”,后者也是缺乏版权保护意识,或不善于维权。另外,还可以由“谋取暴利”这一“目的”,想到盗版“手段”,说说盗版技术很简单,很容易实现。另外,在“生产者”、“消费者”这种“民众”的原因基础上,想到“官方”的原因,即相关法律不够严厉,或执行不到位等。
第三段
有了第二段的原因,第三段“盗版现象的危害”就很好写了。同样可以写出对“生产者”和“消费者”的危害,前者如“原创人员或正品生产者版权受侵,利润受损”,后者如“消费者合法利益受损”等。还可能想到“破坏诚信、浪费资源”等对整个“社会和国家”的危害。这种有条理的思维方式可通过平时的经常练习和思考进行培养。要多积累,多模仿,使文章的思想内容更深刻,更有见地。
第四段
有了第二、三段的构思,第四段写起来就相当容易了。解决问题的方法也可以从“国家”和“民众”入手:国家立法、执法;民众提高版权保护意识。

(一)题型描述

第三段
写反面的观点和论据。同样采用先观点后论据的写法。
第四段
自己的观点可以有多种写法,要么完全赞成,要么完全反对,要么采取折中立场。如果完全赞成或反对,在阐述论据时可以补充前两段所未提及的论据,如:Personally,I am inclined to agree with the former/latter.Apart from the reasons listed above,I believe that...。也可以对已提过的原因进行重复或强化,并且可以对反方的论据进行驳斥。如果确实认为正反双方观点都有一定正确性,则可以采取折中的立场。
(五)高分模板
