Amazon UK workers are planning further strikes and branded the online giant’s 50p an hour pay increase an “insult”。

The retailer unveiled the pay rise on Wednesday that represents a 10% pay rise in the past seven months.

The news follows a mass strike action at the company’s Coventry fulfilment centre in the Midlands, where employees demanded higher pay.

According to the GMB union, the pay rise averages between just 1.8% and 2.5%.

Amazon said: “We regularly review our pay to ensure we offer competitive wages, and we’re pleased to be announcing another increase for our UK operations teams.”

The move will follow another increase of about 50p an hour in August last year.

Amanda Gearing, GMB senior organiser, said that that hourly pay should rise to ?15 an hour amid the pressing cost-of-living crisis.
