The Summer Palace is the largest and most well-preserved royal park in China. It was built in 1750. It covers an area of 2.9 square kilometres. However, it was largely destroyed in the war of 1860. Later, it was restored in 1886. It became the main residence of royal members at the end of the Qing Dynasty. In 1924, it was open to the public. In 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List. It is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. There are numbers of pavilions , palaces and bridges in the Summer Palace.
