A student asked his teacher how he could learn all of the teacher's all wisdom.
The teacher smiled, picked up an apple from the desk, put it at his mouth and took a bite. He looked at his student, constantly chewing the apple, without a word.
After a moment, the teacher opened his mouth and spat the chewed apple in his palm.
The teacher reached out his hand, took the chewed apple to the student and said, “Come, eat it up!”
In panic, the student said, “Sir, this... how can I eat it?”
The teacher smiled again and said, “After I chewed the apple, you know not to eat, of course; but why do you want to draw the essence of my wisdom? All learning must go through your own chewing.”
The student came to understand.
