The Damage of E-waste
Electronic waste, or e-waste, has become anissue of serious concern to thepublic as a growingnumber of electronic items are discarded in landfillseveryyear. Many consumers are not aware that electronics like computers and cellphonesactually contain toxins that can leach out into the soil and damage theenvironment.
E-waste compounds pose hazards to the environment as well as the humanbeings. Tostart with, when exposed to heat, the components of e-waste releasetoxic fumes and gas, polluting the air and causing global environmental problems. When circuit breakersdeteriorate, they release toxins, such as mercury, thatpollute groundwater. In addition toits damaging effect on the environment, researchers have now linked e-waste to adverseeffects on human health.
In my view, it's high time that the damage of e-wasted should be realizedby the public andmeasures should be taken to cope with this issue. One idea isto put greater responsibility onthe companies that produce the goods. It shouldbe mandatory for them to taking theabandoned items back and dispose them in anenvironmentally-friendly manner.
Advertisement on TV
电视广告
A woman takes a stained clothing item to a smartly dressed man who thenwashes the stainaway with miracle was hing powder. The immediate response fromthe woman is that thisbrand of washing powder is indeed superior to all otherbrands. Such is one of the typicalcommercial ads that are repeatedly shown on TVevery evening. Towards this, people holddifferent attitudes.
Those who maintain positive opinions believe that TV ads help to bring intopublic view a gooddeal of news, mostly commercial, which might otherwise haveremained unknown. Those whohate TV ads say that most of the ads, especiallytheir repetition, have reached the point ofirritation and they are just a wasteof time.
In my opinion, both views are lop-sided. On the one hand, TV ads, in theform of a rtisticpictures, are presented in such a fantastic way and with suchwitty language that they notonly seduce customers to buy their products, butalso give people enjoyment. On the otherhand, not all ads are trustworthy. Acertain number of them are deceitful.
To sum up, ads seek to influence our decisions and tell us what to dousually with the aimbehind them being to enrich some business. To resist thisinfluence so as to make wisedecisions, we must rely on our own judgement andability to reason

So if you are one of them, please switch off your cell phone in public, especially on a quiet and serious occasion. It's a respect for both others and yourself.

参考范文:Electronic Waste
Constant innovations and breakthroughs in technology are helping the world. Electronic products such as television, cell phones and computers have brought great convenience to people. There is no doubt that they make our life colorful.
But there's a downside. The amount of electronic wastes, or products that have outlived their useful life, is growing so rapidly that it represents a threat now. One of the problems people concern most is that the components in many electronic products contain harmful chemicals that can leak into the ground, contaminate underground water, pollute the environment, and finally do harm to people's health.
E-waste is a global problem. To address it, countries around the world must take action now to control the situation. Concerned regulation or law should be passed for the disposal of e-waste. For example, the government should require retailers to collect and recycle used electronics.
The modern age is an age of electricity. People are so used to electric lights, radio, televisions, and telephones that it is hard to imagine what life would be like without them. When there is a power failure, people grope about in flickering candlelight, cars hesitate in the streets because there are no traffic lights to guide them, and food spoils in silent refrigerators.
Yet, people began to understand how electricity works only a little more than two centuries ago. Nature has apparently been experimenting in this field for million of years. Scientists are discovering more and more that the living world may hold many interesting secrets of electricity that could benefit humanity.
All living cell send out tiny pulses of electricity. As the heart beats, it sends out pulses of record; they form an electrocardiogram, which a doctor can study to determine how well the heart is working. The brain, too, sends out brain waves of electricity, which can be recorded in an electroencephalogram. The electric currents generated by most living cells are extremely small – often so small that sensitive instruments are needed to record them. But in some animals, certain muscle cells have become so specialized as electrical generators that they do not work as muscle cells at all. When large numbers of these cell are linked together, the effects can be astonishing.
The electric eel is an amazing storage battery. It can seed a jolt of as much as eight hundred volts of electricity through the water in which it live. ( An electric house current is only one hundred twenty volts.) As many as four-fifths of all the cells in the electric eel's body are specialized for generating electricity, and the strength of the shock it can deliver corresponds roughly to length of its body.
