Rockets can fly in the air, but unlike airplanes or helicopters , they are much faster and more powerful . They can fly straight up and pass through the atmosphere into outer space! A rocket can only take off with a blast of energy. The energy is created by a kind of fuel. Gunpowder was not a very good source for energy. Today, two liquid fuels are mixed together. The gases shoot out of the back of the rocket and push the rocket off the ground and up into the air.
