therefore是副词，意思是：因此，所以。但有时具有连词作用。

therefore有两种用法，一是在整句中，二是在分句中。

一、在整句中，一般不放句末，句首后要有逗号，句中可做副词或插入语使用。

Therefore，we must learn English well.

因此，我们必须学好英语。

They therefore can learn English well.

因此他们可以学好英语。

We shall, therefore, return to this item at our next meeting. 

所以，我们将在下次会议上再讨论这项议题。

二、在分句中，位置较灵活。

一般词前要用分号，其后用不用逗号无所谓。若第二个分句前是逗号或无符号，则要用and therefore。

I had a headache; therefore I could not go to your party.

我头痛，因此不能去参加你的聚会。

I was ill, and therefore could not come.

我生病了，因此不能来。

These birds are very beautiful and therefore liked by many people.

这些鸟非常漂亮，因此受到许多人的喜爱。
