1.prevent作及物动词，后可接名词，代词

We are taking steps to prevent pollution. 

我们正在采取措施防止污染。

Business has prevented me.

我有事耽搁了。

2. prevent作不及物动词

We shall come tomorrow if nothing prevents.

如没有什么阻碍的话,我们明天来。

3. prevent sb. doing    阻止某人做某事

The rain prevented us starting on a trip.

下雨阻碍了我们出发去旅游。

4. prevent...from...   预防，阻止

We hope to prevent anything unpleasant from happening. 

我们希望防止任何不愉快的事发生。
