1、基本意思为“其他的（人或物）”“别的（人或物）”。

Other people / Others may not think that way. 

别的人可能不这样想。 

2、与数词连用时，通常放在数词之后，意为“另外的……个”。

Every member must bring one other person. 

每一个会员必须带一个人来。  

但如果后面不接名词，other则必须置于数词前。

The other six are masterpieces. 

另外6本都是杰作。  

另外，表复数意义的others前也可以用数词修饰（others=other+复数名词）。

Three others lay wounded. 

另外3个人受伤躺在那里。  

3、与 all, some, any, every, no等限定词连用时，应置于其后。

Moral beauty ought to be ranked above all other beauty. 

品德美应列于其他美之上。  

注意，every other有两个意思，一是“每隔”；二是“其他所有的”。

They visit us every other week. 

他们隔周到我们这儿来。  

Every other girl except me is wearing jeans. 

除了我，其他姑娘都穿着牛仔裤。  

4、有时还可以与物主代词连用，置于其后。

All my other patients are fine. 

我的所有其他病人都很好。  

5、the other day/morning/night/week/month  表示：不久前的......。

I saw your friend the other day. 

前几天我见到了你的朋友。  

6、others 与 some 对比使用时，others也表示 some（一些）的含义。

Some people said yes and others said no. 

有人赞成，有人反对。
