1. 表示“遗憾”“抱歉”，是及物动词，不要按汉语意思在其后连用介词 about 或 for。

If you go now, you will regret it.
假若你现在就走，你会后悔的。

2. 表示很遗憾地做某事，其后要接不定式；能这样用的不定式不多，主要是 to say, to tell, to inform等，此时句子主语一般是第一人称，且regret通常用现在时。

I regret to say that you have failed your exam.
我很遗憾地告诉你，你考试不及格。

We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you the job.
我们遗憾地通知你，我们没法给你这份工作。
